- Go to Bill CLinton and Glass-Steagall
Many have called Bill Clinton the most Republican Democrat that has ever
taken office, especially considering his downsizing of government, his tightening of social security restrictions, NAFTA, and the Stegall Act. But by the time Clinton was moving out of the White House, it would have made no damn difference if he'd vetoed the repeal. That do-nothing bunch of railroading Republican Congress would have overridden him anyway. This was the low point of Clinton's popularity as well. And you can't lay this crap at Clinton's feet. El Diktator Dubya could have used one of his executive orders to put it back in place. I'm not taking up for Clinton -- this looks bad. But blaming him for something that would have passed through that Congress and the next sitting president anyway is reaching. Although with those GOP propaganda boys and the Swiftboaters, I guess anything can be spun to the point of relevancy...

Very good post.
This fact may be easy to forget under the current president, but Bill Clinton was among the most pro-big-business presidents. Instead of reining in the corporations, as a responsible government would do, his administration helped unleash them.
