The Atheist God

All the atheists I have spoken to, I even considered myself to be one once, can easily understand the God I talk about in my blog.  Have a look:

Ultimately, there is but One.  One Life, One God, One Ground of all and everything.  This is however hidden and cannot be explicated by concepts, words, symbols.  That is why it was written of old:  Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.  This God, is referred to many times throughout many books.  I will start with the Bible, so those unfamiliar with the Bible (there should not be many left) will have to wait a little longer.  Although it states here “graven image” it is better to think of it as any image, be that physical or mental.

Some quotes:  Beginning, middle and end.  First I will highlight the parts that are traditionally emphasized.

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM (JHVH): and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

A better translation here will be:  I AM WHAT IS (JHVH)  i.e. Real Life without fictions added on.

I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.  I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein

Your post
Some very good points, but I must state that, of them all, that concerning "shades" of atheism by gomedome in your comments section was the best of the lot.

Re: Nail on head.
You're right! God is a selfish human construct that either explains the unthinkable, namely that we all become compost for a fertile earth to regenerate itself, or we worship ourselves as the centre of our own selfish universes.

Xeno-x - I find it a little dissapointing that you would reference one of

the stupidest posts ever written on Blogit.

Atheism does not have "shades" for pete's sake, the minute that there is any degree of doubt in the certainty that God does not exist (any god), the individual is by definition an agnostic.

Xeno you write: "I have had enough experiences to at least feel that something is working beyond the material world we all perceive with our material senses." Do you have a post that discusses these "experiences"? I'm wondering what you mean by this. Zen

While I see Atheists responding to the God in people, I find very few signs of God in the human race. I do find though that the God of my Hindu and Christian heritage alive and active. Could it be that there is really one God who responds to the pure in heart and not to others? Could it be that the God beyond names and forms is perceived at the level of silence and homage but not in one of caustic words? It is a failure to know God if you only find him in the madding crowd and not in the silence of your own pondering!! My 2 cents! Great topic!
