between Hillary and McCain.  If so, barring ill health or death on the part of McCain, he will more than likely become our next president.  Not because of his overwhelming popularity, but because of Hillary's general dislikeability...

In the sentence, "Mr. McCain's victory in South Carolina was sweet recompense for his loss there four years ago..." do you mean eight years ago, when he lost there to George Bush? I don't believe he challenged Mr. Bush for the Republican nomination in 2004.
