Re: Books are something

I think you hit the nail on the head--books are filled with the soul of the author. They're priceless treasures, and should be treated as such!

My pile of "to be read" books never seems quite big enough--I guess that's why I'm always running out of space! When Mark and I finally get around to building our own house, the one thing I'm going to insist on is a library/office. A room with built-in wall-to-wall shelving would be so wonderful!

Books are something
I never part with, I think they are full of the soul of the author, and I can't bear to part with them.  I don't have any more room either, and even tears won't work as there is no more space!  They will just pile up, I am sure.  When I finish a book, it goes into my over stuffed book case which is my pride and joy!  I look and think 'I read ALL those books!!  And then there is the stack of 'to read' books, outside the bookcase...

Re: Sira

LOL - you're house sounds like heaven on Earth! My dad used to say that if the economy ever got bad enough, he'd have to let me go for financial reasons, so I totally understand you're reasoning with the kids!

I actually quit lending my books out to people, after a friend took one on vacation and dropped it off the side of the freakin' cruise ship! We're still buddies, but things have never really been the same...

Sira
Selling books? I would not sell any books of mine any more than I would sell my children, although I might take an offer I can't refuse on the children! And I have thousands, literally! Books, not children, LOL! I have shelves and shelves, and stacks and stacks in various parts of the house, from top to bottom and in the basement! It's ridiculous! I need a librarian! And I have an elephantine memory for books I lend to people! I am willing to pursue them to the end of the Earth if they should try and get away with one of my books, instead of returning it to me...

I met a woman with those exact sentiments at the Library on Sunday.
She says her kids could grow up and leave home, but she's keeping her books. It's part of the nest. :)pat
