I've heard/read that statement as well, ginnie. It isn't trite when you consider that the character was only voicing the writer's thoughts.

It's human to question...I think to not question stifles the spirit...
...and it's all about spirit. There's a line from a TV show (sorry I know that sounds trite) but the guys says, "I want to believe in God but religion keeps getting in the way."

I think you summed it up pretty well
It isn't about proving or disproving the "miracles" described in the bible. It's about believing in something, and having faith in a greater good. His true miracles aren't written in the pages of some book - they're in the face of a smiling child, or the blooms of a pretty flower.
If you really want to find God, get out and enjoy the life he gave you!
