There don't seem to be any limits to stupidity, especially when coupled with greed...

YUikes!
Why in hell did my parents instill in me this damned conscience? I could be sitting pretty in Bombay by now. Or be governor of the state...

If it's too good to be true it probably is.... Geeze, there sure is a greedy streak running though some people. They want, they want, and they want more so coughing up $200,000 to potentially win millions seems like a viable idea. Helloooo people! Look around! Most of us are already
wealthy even though we may not possess millions of dollars. Hug your kids, pay your $50 medical premium, drive your car which didn't cost $100 to gas up, walk to work without dodging bombs, eat your KFC and think of a small bowl of rice, or lay your head on your pillow at night and count your blessings that you have a pillow.
Was that my out loud voice?

Actually some folk are just so gullible it's almost a shame not to take all
their money. LOL Seriously though they need stopping and big time punishment for preying on the weaknesses of others.

Scammers Are A Special Breed
They're clever, they're genuine, and they're out to steal your cash. Really, they're like intelligent bank robbers. Instead of using brute force, they use creativity and brains.
I try to feel sorry for the victims, I suppose because empathy is the most socially acceptable response. But really, if I'm honest with myself, the first thought through my head is always "How stupid do you have to be, to fall for that?".
A lottery ticket in an egg - come on guys, think before you hit the ATM!

Re: As P.T. Barnum used to say, there's a sucker born every minute...
Yes Pat, and old T. P. was right. It's often the elderly and befuddled who are victimized by these bastards, and I am glad this lady managed to save her money. How do we educate people? Folks, THE 'GOVERNMENT' DOES NOT CALL YOU AND ASK FOR YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER! It just takes your money legally...

I agree, desperation can play a role, and those who are desperate also deserve our pity. In this case? There was the accountant (!) who gave him $92,000 to get a winning lottery number...there was the guy who initially wanted help with his failing marriage, but then decided he wanted assistance (through the crook's
special prayers) in winning the affections of Bollywood 'superstar' Aishwarya Rai... I am not heartless, but I have little sympathy for these people...

As P.T. Barnum used to say, there's a sucker born every minute...
Mama used to say if something sounds too good to be true, it is. There's another scam going around -- a voice on the phone says they're from the govt. and there's a rebate check they want to deposit, but they need the person's checking account number. The elderly woman who'd been called by a "very persistent" caller finally gave the guy her number, but she was suspicious and managed to cancel the account and set up a new one before the scammer got to it.

If he would have prayed, he would still have his money. I would cry myself silly if I allowed someone to bilk me out of that much money. I am going to pray for that poor soul, literally! sam

Pitiful.....truly, it is.....and, you forgot to add desperation to the mix, that always makes it even sadder to me - when I read about the old, infirm, trapped in some way who fall for that crap. Unfortunately, it's not that much of a leap to apply these same thoughts to some of the swill that passes for research and reporting of all types that the public at large is exposed to daily and has to be vigilient in reading....just because it's not using eggs in water doesn't mean it's good science or solid polls, etc. Hope that made sense.....I know what I'm trying to say but in between phone calls, I'm not sure I got it out -- speaking of good, concise communication!!!
