Pat, I think we're just worrying too much about the little dears today...

Well, you survived quite well without a backpack, didn't you?

Re: Nautikos.........................
Maggie, when I went to school I carried my books loose, with a leather strap, or in a briefcase. Thinking back, I would have loved to have a backpack, but nobody carried those, and nobody even thought of them as something to bring to school...

Re: Ha! That's a good one!
ginnie, maybe she became strong as a result of all that backpacking...

But survive you did, and obviously very well, Rumored! And unlike many of the kids today, you also learned to write well...

That's what I wonder sometimes: do they actually have any books in there?

All this is complete news to me. I never realized that kids have problems with their backpacks...Maybe they should carry these things on their heads! I have seen African women carry huge loads on their heads! Of course, the guys usually carry nothing...

Looking at my grandkids' backpacks, I want to run to the school
and tell the teacher, lighten up already. I suppose the day will soon be here when everything they're studying is computerized and all they'll need is a big brown envelope to carry their laptop... :)

Sounds electrifying...

I don't like it that children have to take all their books around all the time. It is too hard for them. I can't understand how this works but just that it works is great.

Kids can recharge their phone throughout the school day so they can talk on
it all night. Not a good idea I reckon.

Nautikos.........................

I've always worried about the kids carrying those packs on their backs.  I've moved my grandkids when they've put them in my way and I think I'm pretty strong, but those packs were heavy.  Then, they have their musical instruments to carry as well.  We try to pick them up from school so they don't have to carry them.

Although I find your article interesting, one-fifth is pretty minimal.

Ha! That's a good one!
Ingenious really!  My daughter used to carry so many books in her backpack that we figured she had a back like a ...hmmm..camel? mule?  One of those! She's a strong as on ox!  I'm sure she'd love me comparing her to these animals!

Naut, backpacks weren't around when I was in school...and how I ever
survived my Grade 13 Biology text and notebooks is a true mystery....

PostSmile! Hi .. This is really interesting. They didn't have backpacks when I went to school and others could see what you were carrying to and from school. Now, you have to seardh to see if there is really any books in there among the gadgets.

Naut
Now this one didn't entirely surprise me because I've seen some re-engineered backpacks.  Too many kids were complaining of back aches.  My daughter, for example, who weighs in at about 100 lbs. was carrying around a 30 pound pack pack during high school.

Very good info. About the books, I think they are in the lockers because they have forgot the combos and why not carry that PS2 for them and their friends. lol   sam
