Re: Sira

It really is a blast! Plus, it improves your balance, and works muscles that you don't normally use.

Most cities offer some sort of beginner program for adults - I used to teach one, here in Calgary. They'll even teach you how to fall down properly, so you don't hurt yourself too badly!

Sira
I haven't been on skates years, and the last time I was I spent most of the time on my butt. And I also hurt my back! I am one of two or three Canadians who can't skate, even though I am fairly athletic in other respects (I have run Marathons, for example.) But you do make it sound enticing...

Re: Brings

Kaboom, I remember crack the whip - it's still a favorite out here, for kids and adults!

Thanks for reading

Re: Fantastic Sira!!

I'm no where near as good as I used to be, that's for sure! But my muscles remember the "way of it", and I can hold my own. I'm thrilled that Mark had fun - I think it'll be something that will keep us active and let us spend some quality time together!

If you're ever in Calgary, Bowness Park is a year-round "must see" place! In the summer, you can rent little paddle boats or canoes, and tour the lake that way - it's just as pretty then, with all the trees and flowers in full bloom.

Thanks for reading

Re:
Thanks sam! It's been a passion since I was a little kid, and I think I'll be out there racing around even when I'm a 90-year-old granny, all hunched over!

Brings
back memories of ice skating as a kid.  I flew when we played 'krack the whip', not anything as good as your skating, but thrilling nevertheless!  Have fun skating together!

Fantastic Sira!!
Felt like I was there with you...gliding over the ice! You must be really good at it!  And how exciting that Mark wants to skate with you!  I love skating!  I miss it!  I've wanted to skate on the Rideau Canal but that park in Calgary sounds mighty nice!!
