his hip got out of joint
his hips and knees were so bad and the hip would not syay in place. he was in pain.

exactly happened? I don't understand why you had to put him to sleep. Sorry for your loss. I won't question if it's true or not...just curious about the circumstances and wondering if I could be of any consultant assistance.
