Believes himself to be God's messenger.

This is Danny. He tells me God wants to save me....that God TELLS him this. He tells me I'm his "angel". Everyone in town knows him. He hangs out on this bench where I see him on a regular basis. Of course, what we also know about Danny is the he is homeless and mentally ill.  Zen

Gome
you pointed out an imperative distinction that both corrected and enhanced my comment. I was in fact speaking of the "social shipwrecks", simply because it is this group that I personally have had about 98% of my experience with. My experience has mostly been with Christians who were, as I indicated in my comment, "lead" to Christ later in life, as opposed to the section who have been generationaly indoctrinated as you put it; which, by the way, I agree do in fact make up the majority of believers.

Okay, I just made that number up but I do know that it has been a lot of times, especially since being on Blogit.

A-and-B - that's something we see a lot of around here
People that throw out accusations and insults, then either claim innocence or run for the hills when asked to validate their claims.

cantey_1975 - I don't know if I completely agree with that

I would argue that a very large percentage of people that have become Christians for whatever reason (mostly generational indoctrination) do not fall into the category of people with deep moral failings. There does exist a moral majority in our societies and there is no disputing the fact that the majority of these people are decent and moral Christians. It simply is not necessarily comprised of the people who make the proclamation that they represent this moral majority.

If you are speaking of the "social shipwrecks" type of people however, the types that turn to religious beliefs as a means of saving themselves from themselves, then I do agree. We must keep reminding ourselves that people with deep moral failings, are a minority, as are some of the loonies we have seen grace this site.

People who write hate fan mail often can't answer to a counter charge.

Gome
I think much of the time what lead Christian believers into faith in Christ in the first place was their own perceived, and usually genuine, deep moral failings. But when these character flaws and moral failings fail to come under the painful scrutiny of Christs teachings in order to be corrected and rooted out, the net result is a perverted picture.
