There are various ways in which to deal with this problem, lustorlove,
but it has to begin with education, formalized and informational. Gangs are a direct result of economic marginalization. Stop putting these guys in jail for life over petty crimes and educate them while they are in jail. Give them equal protection under the law. Infuse money into the economically depressed areas. These are just a couple a ways to deal with it. Sadly, no matter what you do, it's a long-term fix, not short term...

This is a really sad entry and the saddest part is that it's true and not
in one country alone either.

I think they need to have a greater understanding of just what they have in this country....and a little tough love given by the parents would help.....Gangs are as bad as disease in this country these days...

I think all your suggestions in your closing paragraph are good ones but you certainly hit the nail on the head when you said these youths/young adults need to feel a sense of importance.

First you need to cut off thier economic support
The war on drugs is a total failure. The rise of gangs in America coincides with the availability of popular black market for drugs.
My Grandmother said we had learned two lessons from prohibition. The first is that you cannot legislate morality. The second is that you cannot control the market of something that's illegal.
Or did we?
