Ahhhhhh
that has to be one of the sweetest stories ever. You captured it well in your poem.

Re: This was excellent!
this really did happen! it was a story on NPR about favorite kitchens. People sent in letters about their favorite kitchen experiences, etc. The vet in this story received an upside down pineapple cake by mistake and made the decision to eat it and share with his buddies rather than let it spoil. He wrote to the person who sent and they sent more stuff. What with the war and all, the man felt he had never truly thanked the people stateside for their efforts in providing him and his buddies with a few small, touches of home. I don't know if they ever met, but the vet remembered, sent his letter to NPR for this series. He read the letter on air, etc.  That's all I know of the story, but it really did bring me to tears!

This was excellent!

This was excellent!  I enjoyed it very much and wondered if it really happened, and if it did--did the soldier and the sender of the goodies ever get a chance to meet?  One could only hope they did.

Re:
thank you!  It comes from a story on NPR I listened to on my way to school one day and truly left me in tears. Not an easy thing to do!
