Krisles...
I fear the sloppiness evident in the launguage reflects a general malaise toward rules of all kinds.  How many McDonald's servers count change correctly when they give it to you?  They are lucky to be able to take the number the computer gives them and find that in the change drawer.  People also drive as if there were very few rules, or at least any that apply to them.  Bottom line: what would happen to our self-esteem if teachers forced us to do schoolwork correctly?

The Slaughter of a Language
Though English is my second language, I totally agree with you. In my own language the very same thing is happening. But partly I blame the school, because our children is not educated to read and write properly anymore!

Ah, my dear...
You hit upon something that tears at my very being. It drives me completely batty -- especially when I hear it in communications oriented businesses -- like the newspaper!

Yikes! I am becoming my father!

The problem is endemic, in this country as well. There also appears to be an ideological component to this, at least in the minds of some people. A couple of years ago I made some casual comments  about a poorly written article, and someone declared that to insist on flawless English was 'elitist'...

KRISLESS
An excellent post! I agree whole hearted with you. I am not the sharpest tack in the box and yet I notice when someone has bad grammar etc. and I too am appalled. Writing here on the blog is helping me polish up, by seeing my words on the screen. Anyway, thanks for sharing such a wonderful and timely post
