Ok, you win

We go back to eating the rich then, that makes more sense anyway.

Filing a paper to incorporate your small business doesn't fall into the "image" the common man has of a "Corporation". All generalizations are flawed(including this one).

By placing a levy on the manufacturing of items outside of the US would level the playing field for small business.

Whysper: Are you aware that many small businesses of which you speak are corporations. Then your arguments are contradictory.

The Republicats and the Demicans are at it again

Watch this hand over here while I stick this one into your wallet.

It costs money to take your money from you and it costs money to give it back. Rebates are just a scam, and far more expensive than what it looks like in the long run.

Here's a novel idea, Washington, instead of giving me back diddly squat from last years tax raid, permanently lower income taxes across the board.

Pull the ceiling off Social Security and Medicare, by that I mean there shouldn't a be limit to how much you have to put in. Yeah, the rich will scream but it's better than the alternative which would be eating them.

Lastly, and this is the hardest one to make Americans understand. Corporations are the bad guys. 80% of the jobs in America are provided by Small and Medium size businesses. All corporations do is destroy competition and then send the jobs over seas.

Increase Corporate Taxes and give some serious tax breaks to Small & Medium businesses to incourage them to expand their business, hire more workers and help them with the burden of Health Benefits.

I am one who believes that sensible tax reductions for corporations can have a positive effect on the economy. But that is over the long term. The stimulus package should be so designed so the recipients of the outlay are the  ones most likely to spend it. The economy needs this infusion of spending in the near term. Therefore giving it to the less wealthy will, ceteris paribus, better stimulate the economy.

How they configure this will be determined by the Congress and the President. Regardless of what you and I think or say, they will do what they want. So let's sit back and see what they do. For do something, they must.

Most of the Democratic ideas are worthless. The Republican ideas are

alright, except they are going to help the rich predominantly, not the poor -- the backbone of this consumer market.  Tax breaks for the citizens of this country would be a great thing.  For example, pass a law that gives every American a 10% tax cut on their personal income.  Reinstate the taxes that have been relaxed or cut for the corporations and on capital gains.  Regular people usually don't have stock portfolios of any great worth so the capital gains tax reduction only helped the wealthy anyway.  Do not help these damned people who signed on the dotted line, neither the borrowers nor the lenders.  Their greed, ignorance, and general stupidity got them there; let them get themselves out the best way they can.

Hey, people.  Wise up.  Stop spending more than you make.  Get a second job.  Pay off your credit cards (then burn them -- don't cancel them; they will keep your credit rating strong).  Pay your bills on time.  Think long term.  If the government sends you $600 of your own money (they subtract it from your tax refunds, those sonsofbitches, which is a f**king shame), pay bills and credit cards with it.  Don't buy a new purse or a new iPhone.  If you're fine, invest it in CD's or mutual funds or solid stocks (stocks are down -- they will definitely go up).  Bush is going to tell you to spend it.  He's rich and helped get us into this f**king mess.  Screw him.  Invest it or bank it or pay bills with it.

Has anyone thought of adding up all the quick fixes and cuts to even determine if this rationale is feasible or not? You are right on the poor getting the money too late. Probably as I am writing this, several have disconnected.  sam

You just made sense of what...

Wolf Blitzer has been babbling about all morning. Personally, I think sending out checks to people so they will spend the money is sort of insulting since they are giving me back my money to begin with. However, insult aside, I could use a couple hundred dollars not that this would help long term.

What worries me is that they will put through a hodge podge of tax cuts and spending programs as a knee jerk reaction to this "sudden" down turn in the economy (which they only seem to be concerned with because we are in the middle of an election year) and then they will make these band aids permenant.

And that could do far more harm than good. Thanks for the clarification.
