Good grief! An admirable writer and talented poet as well? This piece is
profound as well as heart wrenching, intelligent and again like a breath of fresh air to read; simple to read and understand but deeply profound. Your style reminds me a lot of the style of another writer (& man) I admire very much. Thank you for sharing your depth and talent with us.

I would say
thank you personally to your son if I could--maybe you can do it for me. My father is a Navy combat veteran from WWII. I have the greatest respect and admiration for the men and women who defend our great nation. Many have paid the ultimate price.
