SIGNALS!!!! IT'S SIGNALS!!!

I was trying to figure what "turn singles" were -- and how you use them.  Was it at a dance, where single men and women line up against the wall and take their turn?

Or was it maybe a new game, where you play singles and doubles, like tennis?

But yes I agree with you.  These people take a driving test where they have to answer questions in a book about turn signals and when to use them, then they have to take a driving test where, if they don't use turn signals properly, points are deducted from their score and they probably don't get the license; then, when they do get their license and out on the streets, they somehow don't seem to understand the use of these implements of driving duty and pleasurable experience for other drivers.

Sort of like parking in no-parking zones or at expired meters or driving through a railroad crossing with the gates down or running a red light  seconds after it's changed, or rolling through a four way stop -- the laws and rules don't seem to apply to them (mainly because, as you said, the laws aren't enforced.

But the primary force behind this is attitude -- they are the only people of any importance on the road and they are not accountable to anyone else.  They weave in and out of traffic at prodigious speeds, dart out in front of oncoming traffic, stop in the middle of the street to talk with someone they know, run up behind you right on your bumper while you are doing 5 miles over the speed limit and honk at you for all they're worth for you to get out of their very important way because they have to be where they're going (home to rest on the couch, most likely) in a very short time (and, usually these type of perpetrators are driving a huge SUV, which their equivalent of a bulked up, muscle-bound body, meaning they are the bullies of the road).

Mostly selfishness, self-centeredness, inconsideration, and just plain meanness.  All the same creature.

Some people don't use turn signals because they don't think
it's anybody's business where they're going.  And some are old and infirm and simply forget where the turn signal is. My friend June did that the other day. She turns 90 next month and has decided not to renew her license. What if she forgets where the brake is, she says. It could be dangerous.
