"Mr. Obama stuck to his plan for "a phased redeployment"; if his scheme of a year ago had been followed, almost all American troops would be out by this March."

And that would be bad because? The progress against sectarian violence would be reversed? It was the war that led to the violence in the first place.

Now, maybe some reckoning (involving much violence) was coming down the pike anyway, American-led war or no. But it's not clear why the U.S. needed to be in the middle of it. Iraq is not our country.
