Naut did the girls have any say in the husband they got and I'm sure I'd

Seems like it worked pretty well. Marriage for practical reasons
and making a good business of it can't be much worse than marriage for passion that fades as reality and dailyness take over from the honeymoon glow and the fascination with the new.

Aren't there more women than men these days? How about some "casket boys" for the girls?

Yes, Ann, I know what you mean. The recycling would be particularly troubling...

I agree! I would find that utterly impossible, but then, different strokes for different folks...

Thanks. I'll add it to my list of things to be read. But I must tell you that I did not arrive at my position after a lot of turmoil. I wasn't brought up to be very religious in the first place...

Well, ZenMom, you can do that in places like Amsterdam and Hamburg, where they are on display in the windows, and you can rent them by the hour...

The times they are not a-changing
They come from Russia and the Baltic States these days and they are not only distributed but recycled, sad to say.

Naut
Sounds a little more refined or at least slightly better than the mail order bride approach. Picking a bride to be from a catalog seems (to me) an act of desperation.

Is variety truly the spice of life? I know you said you were agnostic; I think that has happened to those who profess to be believers. I have been through my own turmoil on this subject. May I suggest taking a look at
No Cross, No crown by William Penn. I just think it is good reading and not meant to change or crucify or any host of religious antics that impede upon anyone. sam
