It's been ugly out there awhile...
...if you ask me. I'm glad we're at least trying to get pretty for a change!

Hell, yeah, jollyjeff. No way that most of the crap we've suffered through
the Bush administration is good for our nation, our people, or our position in the international community...

Great post on cacophemisms, Naut. And I agree, for the most part.
It's much the same in conservative circles, where the term "liberal" has come to mean "godless, insensitive, weak-kneed, overly permissive", etc.  However, I happen to agree with Cafferty's assertion of the Bush administration and their authoritarian tactics over the past six years: abrogation of the Constitution (NSA wiretaps), renditioning, unlawful detention, the North American Coprosperity Union, and Dubai Ports World (the latter two agreements made without the knowledge of the people or proper oversight).  They're a bunch of fascists in the true meaning of the term.  I'm more of a centrist than anything, Naut, but the style of government exhibited by the Bush administration is textbook fascism.  Remember, it only took Hitler a few years to gain control of possibly the most well-educated populace of the 20th century.  And I'll take John Dean's (a Goldwater conservative) definition of the neoconservative, borrowed from social behaviorist Bob Altmeyer: born out of the Reagan brinksmanship years, neoconservatives are right-wing authoritarians, self-righteous, convinced of their god-given right to do what is necessary to defeat their enemies, tend to be militant internationalists, are negative thinking, aggressive and social dominators (not a good thing), and primarily led by disillusioned leftists of the 60's and 70's who have drifted increasingly conservative.  Dean breaks down the mentality of the modern conservative in Conservatives Without Conscience

If you disagree with what our leaders are doing
It's patriotic to say so.

The problem with Cafferty, as with so many on the Left, is that they don't know what a real fascist and/or Nazi is! Throwing these terms around to lambaste conservatives is just stupid and invalidates their (possibly) sound arguments. I wrote a post once, dealing with these issues. If you're interested, you'll find it here: http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/Nautikos/342800

It's a rare occurrence, I admit, TAPS. But I love the guy. He reminds
me of me, except he's better looking and 20 years older.  How sad is that?

Did you ever notice that Jack Cafferty never smiles?
