would it work to sell an e-book?
The buyer buys through paypal
the seller sends e-book through email I suppose?
Is this okay?

What about using this as an ordering system for non-digital items?
Some of my Blogit readers have asked about buying an autographed copy of one of my books and this would seem a good way to do this except:
1. The "content" area is misleading. I would not be selling digital content for the item.
2. There is no place for the buyer to specify their shipping address.
3. There is no shipping charge calculator so that I am not paying the shipping charges or charging more than I should for the shipping location.
Thanks in advance for allowing this capability.

re: Items For Sale...
This sounds good but Im just wondering what exactly does the 'buyer' gain from buying and 'item for sale" ?

Sorry for the delay; I missed your comment earlier. The idea is just to list an item for purchase by any reader, not necessarily for a specific person, e.g. if you had a weekly column, you could list it at a specific price.
For pricing, I'd suggest using other digital content as an example, e.g. Apple sells songs for $0.99 and Amazon has digital magazines for $1-$2.

I guess two questions come to mind
The first is, how would you sell a column? Since it would seem writing a column for someone would be an ongoing arrangement(i.e. daily, weekly, bi-weekly(twice a week not the other kind of bi(get my mind out of the gutter will you?)). Would you present an example and a price per or what?
The second is, would it be ok to sell my soul on Blogit? Since I would still own the copyright I think that would be more of rental, so maybe I just answered my own question (not that I'm thinking of selling my soul or anything(did you have a price in mind?)).
Thanks for whatever it is that you do.

multiple category listings
I like the idea of being able to list my items in more than one category. Of what I have listed so far, 3 would be sufficient for each of them. 4 would provide a bit more wiggle-room on some more unusual pieces.
BTW, please look at the answer I posted to Purple Mermaid in the Cafe--just to be sure I am not leading anyone astray about the listing system.

New items show up on the New Items page as well as on your profile; how else would you like to be able to tell people about your item?
I've added being able to list the item in multiple categories to our request list; would it be OK if we limited it to 2-3 categories/item?

Re: Can someone point me to a list of acceptable items for sale?
gomedome, since you and several other members are interested in selling other kinds of items, one approach would be to have a different area for such a purpose. We'd like to keep things from being confusing, so it seems like that would be best.
We are looking at several different ways to do this, so if you have any further input, please let us know.

New items for sale
Where can I tell people about my sale item? Also, can I sell it in different categories? By the way, I listed my item called "Memoirs from a Segregated Education". Hope you like it.

Never mind...
Blogitstaff, I have found the answers to the questions I asked.
And I have posted my first listing, a short short story called THE MONEY SHOT.
I really have no idea how this sort of thing ought to be priced.
Also, I notice that the listing page doesn't have space--or I dn't see it--for listing author, word count, or--what I think would be a nice thing--a place to make a dedication.

Term Papers???
I would hate for Blogit to become a term paper mill! There's enough of that disgraceful practice around! I strongly urge Blogit to ban the selling of term papers! And I fully realize the difficulty in defining what constitutes a term paper as opposed to a 'normal' piece of writing...

Great present, Blogitstaff!
Does it include photos as well as words in an article or, say, little book?
Is this for online only, or can hard-copy items be offered here?

Oh, I see.
Gosh I post everything I write on blogit. May have to rethink that. Still I don't see why an individual would want to buy what I write. Maybe a magazine or newspaper. I can't imagine buying anyone else's writing by itself, only if it were part of a book, newspaper or magazine. Maybe I'm missing something.

Re: I'm a bit confused
jollyjeff, the idea would be to use this for content that people are not currently posting on Blogit, e.g. because they would prefer to set the price or would like a non-blog format.

Re: I'm a bit confused
Hopfully they are selling something very different from what they blog. I think that people may have a little ditty that they feel is too special to just post in general. Maybe something they wrote long ago that is just a gem! That would be something to sell! Now give me something to buy. I have coins in my pocket you know.

Two, no, Four questions for now, no reply needed.
1. Have a process to mollify the inevitable disgruntled buyers?
2. Pricing guidelines?
3. Another blogger suggested some way for potential customers to post a note about what they are looking for. Bulletin board?
4. How about such content as term papers, or otherwise copyrighted material like song lyrics?

Can someone point me to a list of acceptable items for sale?
We see (e.g. poems or articles) mentioned and can assume that eBooks or any creative work derived from writing on any subject would be permitted but where is the line drawn? For example, would a software program be acceptable if we are the author or copyright holder?

why would anyone buy something posted on blogit when they can just read it here and print it out if they want it?

I think
it is a great idea it will allow those members that are serious about their writing to sell some of their work and make more money here at blogit. That is one thing that I have read many times is how little $$ we make by being members in previous post
