We probably ought to be ashamed of all that food, Food4THought...
Instead, I'm just damned thankful!

That was you, Young Miss? Wow!
Beloved got through it pretty well. What I have found is that the family is ready to disown me and adopt her. But the guys in our family have always been smart enough to marry way above ourselves...

Strat...
Sounds like a great time.  We had Christmas at our house this year, it was like that with the food.  I had to put motorcycle tie-down straps around the fridge to keep the dern door shut.  Cherish that close family, you are right, it is a rare commodity.

Sir Strat,
I always thought you looked familiar...I think I spotted you in Bamburg, S.C. back in the late 70's. So, hey, how did your beloved bride enjoy the experience?

That's because I was real Hongry when I wrote this post, Will.
I got to thinking about barbecue and hash and rice and -- aw, hell -- now I'm drooling.

Off to Earl Dukes I go!

Strat,,I don't know about you,but I got real HONGRY after reading this post

LOL What is it about family re-unions, weddings, funerals, graduations, and all the other happy or solemn occasions which bring families together and food? You are required to eat at these family gatherings. If you don't have a plate of potatoe salad or a chicken leg or bar-b-que rib in your hand you are either sick or you don't like the cooking. Lord help you if it's the second reason.

Now, as for misbehaving in church- if I was a 'cut up while the preacher was preaching the Gospel of HIS word, when I would get home my mother would give me the Gospel of the Holly switch. Can I get an Amen?

I hope in a hundred years or so people are still eating the way we do know. I think it would be a shame if our future generations wouldn't have the pleasure of wiping barbecue sauce on the side of their pants legs. LOL

Glad you enjoyed it , Sam.
You're probably right -- only maybe in a hundred years they'll have figured out how to get rid of the cholesterol in barbecue!

I might just have to do that, Naut.
In fact, I may even bring back an old blog I used to keep called "Strat's Soup Kitchen" -- it was over in food and wine and I used to publish a lot of my soup recipes, as well as others.

eventually, I'm going to put together a cook book -- sort of a new version of the old Bachelor Home Companion. Like most guy's endeavors, I learned to cook because it was a good way to get women to come over to my house. That and I've hada life long love affair with my stomach.

Now that I'm married, I still do most of the cooking, just because I enjoy it.

I enjoy your storytelling. As for a century from now, I think they will be eating a lot of similar foods, look how long we have been eating turkey. I think the more things change, the more they stay the same.  sam

Utterly delightful, as always! It would be even more so, however, if you were to share your Grandmother's pilau recipe! Especially now that we already know of Madame Chiang's ingredients...
