Re: In the first place, you're not crazy.
Wow, I never thought of it that way! Running away from dinosaurs seems a lot more logical than running away from the walmart (although some of those people are just as wild!).
Lack of sleep definitely does make things worse, mainly because I'm too tired to fight the attacks! I do try to get some good "sweaty time" in everyday - sometimes it helps, sometimes not!
Thanks for the great suggestions

Re: sira
Yes, I find the meditation and breathing much better than popping pills all the time!
Thanks for reading

Re: Sira
As far as they can tell, it was a combo of stress (built up over a number of years), and genetics. Basically, I had some little gene hiding in me, and when I had my "melt down", it reared it's ugly head!

In the first place, you're not crazy.
Just because something isn't logical doesn't mean it is not true. And being in a store with lots of people, especially during the mommie shopping hours when little kids are likely to cry and throw tantrums is enough to run anyone out of there. Agoraphobia probably stems from genetic memory -- our ancestors were lunch for dinosaurs, and being afraid of the woods or big spaces full of hunter-gatherers could be part of our survival mechanism. I think sleep deprivation may make it worse. If you can dance in your kitchen or find a way to exercise in the house for half an hour or so (not housework - I'm talking dancing or aerobics, work up a sweat) you may be able to sleep a little better. Good luck. :)pat

breathing exercises do help and they are better than medication which may result in side effects. Take care.

Do you have any idea what might have triggered the onset of this?
