- Go to Can a Cockroach Live without Its Head?
Re: UGH!
Intuitively I tend to agree, Kaboom. If I had to chose between a bunch of headless or properly equipped roaches, I'd pick the ones with heads...

Yes, there seems to be some (very inconclusive) evidence for that, stemming from the time of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution and later, when 'experiments' were conducted with guillotined criminals. I don't think it would be a matter of minutes, though possible seconds...Of course, we don't do that sort of thing any more, so these days we might have to rely on data from our friends with al Qaeda ...

I once read that a decapitated human head continues to think and function for a number of minutes. The very thought is creepy..... and so are cockroaches!

Good Morning again, Offy hon
Well, somebody has to stand up for those poor, loathed, yet gentle critters, so often exposed to Weapons of Mass Destruction...

Re: I'm making my bourbon pecan pie.....can you tell?
Krisles, I have put my psyche on the couch and searched - couldn't find any trauma or ecstatic joys in connection with roaches. But there's something fascinating about an animal that has been around for hundreds of millions of years, and will definitely be around long after the human species has shuffled off the stage of terrestrial history...And yes, I can tell you're making your bourbon pecan pie, I can smell it...

Actually, a prof I had at UT once had a sideline life a cockroach expert....had a huge government grant (is there any other kind?) to study them or something....and showed my freshman Biology class a film he had mad on the little critters...thousands of them were housed over our very heads as it turns out....one thing I remember about it was the way they thrive in paper..... I gave up an incredible old apartment once because they just couldn't be outwitted once, have resented them since.... I knew you couldn't stay away from them for long....you just had to come back, didn't you......what was it, a childhood trauma or a childhood thrill? Come on, you can tell me......

Well of course they nuture their young. Nobody else will! Actually being
the disgusting, since I've read it I'll have to try it, amature ,would be scientist Iam, I've tried it on several occassions. It is true, it does work, it's delightfully disgusting to any cocky hater(me) and the best part is that yes since they breathe through different places they can also smell; so place some wet cat food near the headless enemy and watch. Now that's fun!

My last comment didn't post, possibly because it was a mean reference that compared my first ex husband to a headless roach... in any case... where do you get this stuff?
