Reagan started it -- putting a dirty connotation to the word, liberal

attacking rhetoric cowed first, the politicians, then the media.

dependence on large advertising revenues probably affected the media more than the rhetoric.

corporate America is conservative and can withdraw advertising dollars from those who take a stance too opposed to them and their views.

I have found the media to be bland and halfway cowed into a sterilized stance.

and set up when the stance might be too sharply in opposition, such as the Dan Rather piece on GW's military non-service.

WLee55: I agree with you that the media is corporately owned.  Clear Channel, in particular, fired anyone who had a political talk show that was critical of the Bush Administration policies toward Iraq.
