You said it right
Yes, EX Turpi.Yes. Democracy used to be worst form of Government to Plato,Aristotle,et al, but finally liberal democracy has come to stay as the only best option for carrying the general will of the people for the fair governance towards upholding the rights (positive or negative) of the subjects. OK. Socialism always creeps in any form of government somehow for equity and humanism or positive liberty for making congenial atmosphere for people to enjoy their given rights freely. Unless I am given the spoon or hands how can I eat my porridge... The enabling regimes expect some discipline  and if that is not acceptable to the opposition then ruling regime is dethroned by popular ballot and the opposition takes the reins and takes the same position for the sake of circumstances force them (be they economic, political etc).

the cycle is vicious and ultimately democracy is good for the people but who are they, and what part of mandate is translated into the power, (sometimes those who poll less votes gets elected) are the elections systems fair, direct or indirect elections have their own faults.

Moreover the society has the uncanny and inexplicable way of expressing different ideologies in any form of government through the operation of human mind. So we see tyranny of few like in feudal days, We see capitalism in communistic states, and we saw people happy in monarchies run by wise and kind kings in the good old past, we see fair socialism in aristocracy of Britain but only in Britain in the last century (never in colonies). To me for the forms of government the nature of human beings asserting their composite will in subtle way though  lobbies, press, public opinion, vested interests, foreign affairs, economic power etc. what we see is not what it is. The days are for subterfuge.

In spite of everything, as we see history, things always get better and we can not foresee future of humans and it will always be peaceful and God is great.

So So True!

I think we really need some changes in our laws to prevent abuse of the democratic process. Some, like the Bush regime, have evaded, slipped by, and have used every possible legal maneuver they could find to do whatever they wanted to do. I think our laws are antiquated and need to be brought up to speed to handle the new types of government criminals with legal ease behind them that keeps them out of trouble. If we can't even trust our Justice Department, who can we trust. We need to clean out the government period. Just send them all on their way. This is definitely not a government for the people, of the people or by the people. The only people this government knows are the Bush people and the Clinton people. We might as well have elected the first Busche King so he could have all his Prince sons take charge right on down the line. And once they're through, you got the Queen on the horizon, Hilliary. More bad news.

If we the people don't get all of them out of the government, we will regret it for the rest of our lives. Talk about change, we'll never have change if we don't change the names in our government first, to protect the innocent people, like us!

The Failings Of Democracy
Ex Turpi: Good post!  Excellent analysis!  This is my basic comment: Democracy doesn't fail.  Our leaders fail it when they refuse to abide by the Constitution.  We are a nation of laws not of men.

Agreed, EX TURPI. We are so busy proving to the world the opposite of our
espoused ideals that we are isolating ourselves.  Being seen as hypocritical by the rest of the world is a very dangerous and increasingly weakening position...

this to me is all true.
And it is time to (plus the last 8 year )invest in other countries than here... things here will have to get worse before they get better. This country seems to be loosing its soul when it comes to the Constitution.
