And where do I come up with this stuff? Well, this particular stuff comes from the
Scientific American, which is one of the things I read regularly, mainly because we haven't got anything called the
Scientific Canadian...not that we haven't got any scientific Canadians...

I guess we should be thankful that our neuroses don't require the hacking
off of a limb. Seems to me there was an ER or House episode recently with that syndrome as the theme. Maybe it was Gray's Anatomy. They wouldn't operate, but coincidentally someone came through the area with a chain saw, and that was almost that.

It is actually recognized as a serious disorder by psychiatrists, but it's relatively rare. What is even stranger is that for some of people it is a sexual turn-on to have a limb amputated...
