Lost in-between translation and culture..
Many of Islamic techings are lost in-between translation and local culture. Personally, I never feel oppressed being a muslim woman, probably because men in my family are not oppressive.
During my school time in an Islamic School (from KG to High School), the way we were taught Islamic ways was not about 'How it limits our life' but 'How it supports and guide our life' .. So, personally, the way I would put it is.. it's not what knowledge you have, but, how you understand it and apply it in life.
