You're a lucky guy, majroj - at least you remember that you've lost your mind. I can't......... what the heck was I saying?

Majroj, has anybody ever told you that your mind works in mysterious ways, fermented Vietnamese anchovies aside?

"Wooster" indeed, macnab, I figured no one else would recognize THAT per se
But who ever thought of putting fermented anchovies in a condiment..
Oh, wait, the Vietnamese..

When I think about it, majroj, it was when I left as well........perhaps without the 'r'.....more like 'Wooster,' but that's the right way to pronounce Worcester, isn't it?

I suppose it is possible to get bored with steak but I've never had the opportunity to prove it - or afford it.

I worked McDonald's in 1973 for six months
The manager of the grill-it-yourself steakhouse next door would have a Big Mac and fries every day for lunch. No accounting.

Oddly enough, majroj, we were having coffee in Tim Horton's the other week and two of the staff came in during their lunch break carrying Mcdonald burgers. I was quite surprised but as Ell said "They must get mighty sick of soup or sandwich deals. It must warm the cockles of their heart to get a real greasy burger."

Maybe prune juice!
Good deal. Some hospitals actually have OK chow, but I was visiting in one where the staff wouldn't eat.

I was going to type that the surgery was ambulatory and I wasn't in the hospital long enough to have a meal - but then I remembered the two biscuits and the orange juice in the recovery room - nectar, pure nectar, majroj.

ginnie
I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's troubles, ginnie, but the 'now she is getting this needle in her eye deal and it's helping,' made me wince. The opthal....optome.......the heck with it......eye surgeon thought I had macular degeneration which is why I was perhaps getting laser surgery in the big city, but the surgeons there said it wasn't a problem (or perhaps they thought - at his age why bother- excuse the cynicism).
I've only had the right eye done, and the new lens is more generic than anything else. Ell took the right lens out of my glasses, but I still need the glasses for the left eye. Apparently it takes a few days for it to settle down - this makes sense, you wouldn't expect any other wound caused by surgery to heal as fast as that.

Good to hear from you Mac!
I've been worried 'bout ya! Should you be able to see better right away? Unfortunately my mom's cataract surgery didn't work but now she is getting this needle in her eye deal and it's helping. Your description sounds almost pleasant! Now I want one too! Ha! Not! Have a boston creme for me too...no make mine maple iced please!

I suddenly remembered an old jingle about Auntie Mary.
'Auntie Mary had a canary up the leg o' her breeks.' What dark cul-de-sac of memory did that one come from? Everything did go like clockwork, Pat, but the improvement hasn't shown itself yet. Thank you for your good wishes. I'll get back to what I call normal in a few days.

ginnie
I didn't even feel the needle, ginnie, and half way through the op (after I'd had more sedation), I found it quite interesting. It was like being in a rainbow dream, with shifting and shimmering lenses and colours. I like your 'It'll be all over in a quick slice of time.' remark, ginnie - very droll.
I've written an article about the op in longhand as the screen is too tiring just now, and I'll do some research and look for some senior's magazines as you suggested. Thanks for your good wishes. PS, I still can't see any better. Boston Cream Donut coming my way soon.

Sorry to be late in responding, but I've been dawdling and putting off
until tomorrow, and by now you've already chipped the ice again and got the work done, and it will be another two days before you can read this. I hope everything went like clockwork and the experience itself was forgettable, and the result 100% improvement. As for the Boston Creme donut someone recommended, sounds like a good idea to me. Even if you couldn't use a bit of Aunt Mary's pie.

Cross my heart and hope to die...
...stick a needle in my eye! Oops! Did I say that? Actually my mother said it the other day, just before she was to go for her second needle in the eye of some new drug that can prevent the progression of macular degeneration...always something to look forward to as one ages! Ya gotta loved this 'degeneration' that proceeds too many ills. At the age of 50 I was told my need for a neck fusion was due to degenerative something or other. And I suppose cataract surgery is probably right up there under the 'd' word. Am I making you feel better yet?

Before I wish you good luck tomorrow, I have a question for you: Why didn't you have a boston cream donut with your double double? Sounds like you need to put some meat on your bones...or add some donuts to your waistline! Perfect opportunity!

Good luck tomorrow, Mac! It'll all be over with in a quick slice of time.

I'll be checking for a post from ya! All the best!
