This law is not going to effect those who beat their children. They are nuts anyway. They are not interested in going by the law. This is keeping caring parents from having the authority they deserve over their children.

Excuse me were you the one who had my labor pains
I agree with you all! Here in SA parliament is also trying to push through legislaition forbidding spanking by parents! Already teachers aren't alowed to spank the children and the teachers is complaing that they have no control whatsoever over the children. Some schools have implemented other systems of discipline that actually works well, but only for some kids. I agree that some parents and teachers abuse their authority and beat children to death or almost to death. So there is a very thin line between disciplinning your child and abusing your child. The catch is to know where that line is and to make sure you never cross that line!

I agree with that. I would love to see mandatory classes for parenting when one delivers a baby. I would agree with mandatory relationship classes before people get married. I would love to see the births out of wedlock brought down. If we go the way of these laws then the good parents are brought to the leves of the bad ones. Bring them up not the other way around. What do you think?

Well, you know that I fully agree with you - in principle! Unfortunately, there are legions of parents out there who are neglecting their kids and who have no clue on how to raise a child in the first place...what we are seeing here in Toronto in some areas is appalling...

Thank you. I know what you mean. A parent is financially, socially, spiritually and physically for their children. As long as they are not abusing those children in either of these areas the government needs to stay out of the case. And it is not the voice of just anyone who says what is and isn't abuse.

Justi, I totally agree with you & FYS - Discipline belongs to the parents

I agree with you on this.
I know too many parents whose kids walk all over them.  Discipline belongs to the parents raising the children.
