The whole thing...
...makes my stomach sick...that poor woman and her children who must all be going through hell.  There are some basics within a human being and no matter what religion or political office what she is charged with and what she is up against is absolutely wrong..it goes against everything that is right.

Right you are, food4thought. Differences of cultures aside, the asininity
of this custom goes beyond mere superstitious delusion.  It's more like, let's just add a restriction that makes no sense so the followers can have a reason to be pissed off at people who don't know or don't care about the ridiculous/sacred custom...
