Go to Religion in the Modern World

- Go to Where did we come from?
Talion - I don't know if it is as simple as that but I do agree that fear
of the unknown pertaining to life after death is a huge factor.
The sad truth is that a great number of people protest all which would contradict creationism from a position of woefull ignorance. The ongoing effort to maintain the reconcilliation between their religious doctrines and reality, produces a type of thought pollution that continues to adulterate the collective knowledge base of our species. Where the fear you speak of is most certainly a factor, the root cause of this fear is the insistence in adhering to atiquated religious constructs and concepts.

David1Spirit - it is my hope also that someday our species will get there
We seem to be experiencing a revival of the "flat earth syndrome". That large group of people living within a progressive society that will not co-operate with scientific research and development simply because it may foster results that do not support their religious beliefs. I was shocked to hear that over a million children, nearly half of the total of those being home schooled, are being kept from public schools primarily because they teach evolution. There are a lot of good reasons to home school but that ain't one of them.

I think the reason so much time is spent on where human supposedly came from (creationism) is because it gives credence to the belief of where the "chosen few" will eventually go (heaven). If there is no God, there is no afterlife. When we die, we're done. This is a truly frightening prospect for many people and their fear fuels their religious fervor.

Yet again gomedome, a well written and enlightening post!
"...........If we are to ever truly advance our knowledge of our origins and the world we exist in, we must maintain the integrity of scientific methodology. We cannot allow popular opinion to sway us from uncovering the truth of our origins, if in fact this knowledge is ever to be realized. ......."
Someday our species will get there gomedome, most of them kicking and screaming along the way I am afraid.
I'll tell you what; even if I was a Bible thumper (you know I am NOT), it would be hard to argue with logic like I see in your posts! I can only hope that those whose opinion differ from your own would once in a while bring a little bit more of it to their own posts or comments. Then maybe I would at least read them too. As it is right now I cannot find much of it.
