I agree. The only thing that makes it any better for me is that the deer population in our area is a very serious problem. There are hundreds of wrecks each year caused by deer.

I've never been keen on the idea of hunting for sport. In the past when such was neccessary for survival, great, but today, when there's a grocery store on every corner, thanks, but no thanks. Hanging out in the woods waiting for a deer doesn't seem like "sport" to me. In every other sport, there's at least the illusion of fairness, the competitors are supposed to be relatively evenly matched. A more intelligent, better armed human going up against a non-aggressive animal is more of a slaughter. Of course, this subject forces me to face my own hypocrisy. I eat meat and thoroughly enjoy it. I've eaten deer and rabbit and lamb, the full range of cute, cuddly creatures humans consume and it didn't bother me one bit. As long as I don't have to do the killing and cleaning and most certainly the cooking, it's A-okay.
