Love The New Post-Hunt Feature!
When I entered in "Terri," I came across this post!
And I decided that it was time to make an appearance here--plus various other places--while wearing a recently-designed sig-block.
Hopefully, this will give you some answers beyond that single website put up by Terri's family.
Peace!
AJ
Come here for more information on Terri and others like her as well as things you can do/write to help.
This is a blog where all of the entries, in one (or more) way(s), contains something related to flatulence (as in passing gas, letting stinks, or whatever you might choose to call this action).
To keep up with all of the blogs I've listed in this sig block (plus countless others), this is the place to go!
Check out my newly-created guestbook--
and leave a part of you behind!

For Undone: Info
Death with Dignity has a timeline of the Shiavo case. They are covering it as an example of how important it is to have a living will.
On today's Talk of the Nation they talked about the political maneuvering in the case.
I've learned a few of the details I was asking about, including the cause of Terri's coma. Terri did not fall into a coma as a direct result of a potassium deficiency. She did have this deficiency, but its effect was a heart attack. During the heart attack no oxygen reached her brain, and the lack of oxygen caused her coma.

Great post, Bunny
I did exactly what you did- that is, I was shocked at what T's husband was doing. Then I realized, wait- there must be another side to the story. Now, if we can only find it.

In response to Ainsley
You have just repeated what Terri's family says. Do you have any information that doesn't come from their website?
Who heard Michael Shiavo ask when "the bitch is going to die"? Did this person testify in court?
Which Catholic priest asked Shiavo if he could administer Terri's last rites? Did he testify in court that Michael Shiavo refused the request?
Who are the doctors and caregivers who say that Terri will never recover? What did they say in court?
Michael's attorney says that there is no money left; if Terri dies, Michael will receive nothing but bills. The family says there is plenty of money left, and Michael will inherit it. Is the amount of money left a matter of public record? Has a third party reported about this?
Michael's attorney said that, back when there was money, he offered to donate whatever he inherited to charity. Who heard him say this? Did he make this offer in public? In writing?
Michael Shiavo may be the worst person in the universe, but I can't tell if that's true from what I've read so far, because the only things I've read are unsubstantiated stories. This includes the snippet I read about Michael's offer to give any money he inherits from Terri to charity. I don't know if that's true any more than I know that he won't let a Catholic priest administer her last rites.
I didn't post about Terri to take sides; I posted to say that I'd like to know some actual facts about the case. And I still don't have them.

It isn't over..
The Florida House passed "Terri's Bill" tonight at approximately 10:15 PM Eastern on a 68-23 vote. This Bill, if passed by the State Senate at * AM tomorrow (10.21) morning, will give Florida's Governor Jeb Bush the authority to order that Terri's feeding tube be reinstalled. Senate Presiden Jim King is already known to be in opposition of the Bill. Imagine that ..he being on the Florida Hospice Board of Directors. I'm hoping it passes.

Consistency Contest Won Hands-Down By Parents & Sibs!!!
I think what you have to look at here are the facts for one thing:
1. Terri isn't--nor has she ever been--either comatose or a vegetable. Instead, she is someone who has suffered some brain-damage, but what do you want our society to do? Kill everybody who has suffered some brain-damage from Down Syndrome Angels like Chris Burke to people like my dad, Michael J. Fox, Mohammed Ali, and The Pope who have Parkinson's, to people who are dyslexic, blind, hearing-impaired to people wearing hearing aids, dentures, colostomy bags, knee-braces (yours truly) to. . .just people that other people have decided aren't living the proper quality of life.
Perhaps, if, instead of eventually becoming a white-collar executive and living in a fancy house and having country club membership, you're still working as a clerk in a supermarket or a counter person at McDonald's when you've reached the age of 35 and are living in a 25 year old mobile home that you still owe money for, you might not be living the right quality of life.
Or the other way around--that white-collar executive might have been married three times, is a chain-smoker and an alcoholic, has ulcers and deals with depression (not to mention having one kid in jail, another on drugs, and another who has committed suicide because his/her dad/mom wasn't home enough to form a close bond with him/her) while that blue-collar worker has been married to the same person for almost 20 years and has five adorable and happy kids.
Perhaps, the white-collar worker needs to be starved to death because his/her quality of life isn't as good as the blue-collar worker's life.
2. (and the main point of all) Michael Shiavo isn't consistent.
Terri's family have been consistent in their desire to help her to get well.
Meanwhile, Michael went to court to go on about how he needed all of this money to help Terri to get well and so that he could take care of her. Not until he had won over a million dollars (with at least $750,000 supposed to have been going for getting Terri therapy) did he suddenly decide that his wife didn't want to live this way.
He says that he's doing it out of love for his wife--but not only has he started a new life (complete with kids) with another woman but refers to her as his fiancee.
If you're married, you might have a girlfriend, but you don't have a fiancee.
So, is he truly her husband or not?
Yeah! He is on paper, but he obviously isn't in his mind except when it serves his purposes to be so.
He says that he's carrying out his wife's wishes--yet, his Catholic wife would wish to have Last Rites Communion, and he has denied her this.
And what kind of love would inspire someone to ask when "the b*tch is going to die?"
And why is it that he kept Terri's medical records sealed for years and won't allow anyone to perform an autopsy on her before he has her cremated!?!
Michael has been talking out of both sides of his mouth from day one, and there are a lot of things pointing to how he probably was the one to put Terri into this state of being.
People have been at the very least arrested and have had to go through some criminal court with less suspicious circumstances than the ones surrounding what has happened to Terri, so why was he never investigated more closely?
Something is very wrong with the picture, and trying to pretty-up the picture with a little rose-colored paint won't make the truth go away!!!

That's a wonderful way to state your opinion. I agree totally. I've already signed a living will and am working on my husband (who is 73) to have him do so for himself. It was hard enough to get him to write his will, but I shall persevere.

i sure as hell no i dont want to be a living corpse
and my parents know this... We could have left my Grandmother on a breathing machine, in a coma until she was 80 . I believe fo her sake -- if her religion is true... god had better things planned for her spirit than being trapped inside her dreams
