Corbin: I've directly called you on your veiled accusation, a clear attempt soil my character,  and this is your offering in reply?

Chyrlann: beautiful comment...quibbling and casting stones leaves nothing left with which to to build, doesn't it?  I'd rather spend my time building than destroying.

Thank you Corbin, though I don't thank you for the presumptuous statements you left on another blog of mine.

Wonderful post....Considerate of you to apologize. We are we, as
I am, I am, love is love between fellowman; right or wrong, none will truly know until life after life, as dogs do, we all lay down to die, no time to quibble, casting stones, no time to hate....discord breeds discord, no time for wrong, in our journey each pefect in his own time.

Excellent post....
This is the very reason I choose to seldom participate in posts on the R & S site..........for me it's a personal relationship between me and my maker.......I don't enjoy the degree of anger exhibited by many on the R & S site.....and for some, the message they speak is just a broken record.........read it once and you have it.

Excellent post!

I haven't been to church in a very long time. I don't actively practice any religion. And I've had many people label me as an athiest over the years.

In truth, I'm a very spiritual person. I believe in a higher power, I just don't believe in giving that power a label. I don't need to sit in an uncomfortable pew once a week to affirm my faith. It's re-affirmed every time I see a child laugh, or a garden in full bloom.

Labels promote misunderstanding and discord. I don't want to be labeled or stuffed into a category, and I'm sure God doesn't appreciate it either! He's not your god or mine. He's not Catholic or Jewish or Christian. He just is. And that's enough for me.

Re: FYS

I read the article, Bhaskar.  Very well written.  I hope all who read these comments click your link.

The question you pose:  "How many of you think that dogmatic faith is the only solution to salvation?"  I answer an emphatic "NO."

To me, being an atheist is not bad at all. Long time back I wrote on this: Be a Good Atheist to be a Proper Theist. In case you're interested, you may click here

Re:

Hi sam, thanks for this comment.  You are right on the money.  This is exactly what I've discovered---that even though I didn't mean to judge, I was judging, simply by slapping a label upon a person.

Getting to know people and learning about them is the way to breaking down walls that divide.  It's the only way to eliminate hatred.

Re: FineYoungSinger

Taps...thanks for reading, and for this comment.  You are right on the money.  How often do people try to put God in a little box and define Him, then push this definition upon others?

I believe that He continues to call upon each of our hearts--"do what is right"; "love one another"--even if we don't realize it's Him, even if we don't believe it's Him, even if we question whether or not he exists.  I think humans in their desire to share what they know gets a burr up its collective butt and distorts that voice, causing many to completely miss it.

How can one who seeks the truth regarding this loving, merciful God in whom we believe when a professed disciple of this God is provoking him/her to anger; labeling or stereotyping; misrepresenting the teachings of other faiths; and behaving in an all-around contradictory manner to that of a disciple of God, with no apology for their inappropriate behavior?  This goes for every one of us, including me (especially me, because I understand this truth).

Your comment regarding "My God"...as we get to know God, and understand (if it's possible--I feel like the more I know the less I understand when it comes to Him), we start seeing the fine line between worshipping and believing in God, and taking someone else's word for it and then going through the motions.  The "My God" statement was an effort to make this distinction.

FAITH IS A PERSONAL JOURNEY AND SHOULD BE RESPECTED. LABELING IS A FORM OF JUDGING. THE BEST COURSE IS ONE THAT ALLOWS THE LORD TO HANDLE THIS IMPORTANT TASK.    SAM

First thought, I do not speak in terms of "My God".   God does not belong to any man, nor does he act or react in the way that any human dictates.   On the other hand, if I did not whole heartedly believe that I have found the way to God and have a desire for others to find that way also, then it would be a bit ridiculous for me to continue in that way.

Re: FineYoungSinger - it's so refreshing to finally read something by someone

gomedome, thank you for understanding exactly what I'm saying here.

Christ rarely upheld "God's chosen people" as fine, upstanding examples of His followers.  He often singled out those rejected by the Jews: harlots, tax collectors, poor, Samaritans, Gentiles.

They say history repeats itself.  I often wonder if Christ returned today, where he would find his real disciples, and how surprised those who hide behind their religions and spout hate, jealousy, suspicion, and self-righteousness will be.

FineYoungSinger - it's so refreshing to finally read something by someone

who actually gets it.

There are very few generalizations that are accurate when describing those who do not believe in a traditionaly defined God. Be they people with the certainty of atheists or agnostics who's certainty varies in degree, only the word "honesty" envelopes a great number of them. This is so for the most obvious of reasons. Honesty goes right to the root of what made them believe as they do in the first place. Though I must concede that my opinions on this may be every bit as biased as the next persons, I do not believe it is just a coincidence that every last non believer I have ever met in my 50+ years, are also some of the most honest people that I have ever met.
