Kooka:
What you said here: "We get to go to sleep at night realizing that we have done the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing and helping make the world a better place, which is all the reward we need."
This is the kind of existence which believers SHOULD be striving to reach, because it's good and right. It's sad that some people need the fear of an angry god to make them realize that very simple truth, and then still never really grasp it, as evident in their bashing of people with the wrath of an angry god rather than living the way they aught.
Speaking from a believers point-of-view, I can say that I know what I know regarding God, and have experiences within my existence that give me assurance that a loving, merciful, perfect God does exist. However, my loving, merciful, perfect God does not dictate anything I do under some threat of punishment. I believe that He gave me free will in everything, and in the end, my behavior is solely up to me, and whatever I do, I have to live with that consequence in the right here and right now. We don't live today for an unknown future, we live today for today, believing in God or not.
Which is why that person really didn't suspend his belief for any length of time, because he ultimately knows this as well.
You've outdone yourself on this one, Kooka. Excellent.

RedStatesMan - it's a little more than a "disconnect"
You've responded to my earlier comment discussing generalizations. Re-reading what I have written I see that the usual careful consideration of qualifying my statements is a little lacking. The occassional slip up aside however, neither Kooka or myself make a habit of generalizing or using unqualified statements.
The saddest part of an individual putting such a ludicrous and moronic chronicle together is that it is endorsed by others at all, let alone the numbers of people willing to lend such nonsense credence. Where I say "it's a little more than a disconnect" is in how easily this type of travesty against others is overlooked, or not for a moment considered for what it truly is. It is nothing more than the promotion of hate from a position of ignorance. If you doubt this last statement; simply replace the word "atheist" in this chronicle with any other word describing any other group of people. If this type of chronicle were written about any other group in this manner it would instead be lambasted far and wide by most decent people.

Re: kooka_lives - the most ludicrous aspect of this supposed chronicle is not
I do not believe that you cab take one persons' views and try to draw a generalization. I believe you were accurate in your title because you stated "their are believers..." so it is good that you did not include everyone considering that you do not know every believers' beliefs.
I see that there is some type of misunderstanding between both the non-believer and the believer. It appears that some believers try to spread His word by coming off as superior. On the other hand, some non-believers seem to not understand that there are believers out here who attend church because that is where we worship the Lord and most important we attend church because we are sinners NOT PERFECT HUMAN BEINGS WHO ARE SENT OUT TO PREACH TO YOU. I attend church because I am a sinner and I want to better serve the Lord, by being a better person, being a better Christian and following His direction and purpose for my life. I do not attend because I am "weak minded" as some non-believers contend or to attend so that I can feel I am with the "winning team" if you will. I think that both sides have a disconnect.

You mke many good points
There isn't really much I would disagree with in this post! I would hope however that your not implying that the hypocrisy is all one sided! Remember, this is America.....anyone can find an idiot if you just look for one......they are everywhere!

kooka_lives - the most ludicrous aspect of this supposed chronicle is not
actually the moron who wrote it, though that is ludicrous enough, it's the morons who believe it.
If you were to ask any person of any faith if they are capable of "turning of" their beliefs even for just one minute, the answer would almost definitely be a unanimous and resounding no. Yet the same people are capable, not only of believing that one amongst them is able to perform such a feat, they are willing to promote this nonsensical chronicle as if it actually means something. All it really means is that some folks are dumber than bricks and a lot of other people are capable of buying into dumb if it supports a conclusion they want to hear.
