FineYoungSinger - no apology necessary - I admittedly cloud the issue by
lumping agnostics and atheists together upon occassion.
I've found that with so many people unwilling or unable to make the distinction it is simply easier that way.

Re: FineYoungSinger - thank you again - in truth however I am not an atheist
Thanks for the clarification--I apologize for using the label. That's what I get for assuming, eh?
and you're welcome.

Who amongst us has the right to determine which beliefs are valid and which are not? The only qualifier we can be certain of in determining the validity of beliefs we do not share is by gauging their effect upon society and especially upon those who lie outside of those beliefs. (That is what you meant isn't it?)

So when is the last time you actually read a legal note to the end on a piece of merchandise?

What you said, Gome... I think you have a point.
If I were infallible, I'd say more, but since I'm not...

FineYoungSinger - thank you again - in truth however I am not an atheist
I describe myself more to be an agnostic secular humanist. The term atheist, while I have no problem with it whatsoever, is simply a label bestowed upon me by another extremely inconsiderate blogger who refuses to make the distinction because he isn't quite smart enough to dream up a new label. I've never bothered to reciprocate this lack of consideration simply because I have found that all dialogue with this person is pointless. My beliefs are an amalgamate of the influences of Christianity (specifically Catholicism), Native Spirituality and Buddhism condensed within the framework of the definition of secular humanism.

Re: FineYoungSinger - thank you again - once more you are being too kind
"kindness" has little to do with it---I call it as I see it, my friend. What you've written here is excellent food for thought, yet again. (The irony of an Atheist's body of work having such a deep, positive impact on my journey toward understanding my own beliefs better will always bring a grin to my face.)
when a person says, "I respect your beliefs, but...," everything stated after the word "but" is what the speaker really believes, and the "I respect your beliefs" is negated. So why bother saying, "I respect your beliefs" in the first place?
