I'm part Scandinavian. (My Dad  traced our roots back to Eric the Red)    But I'm not sure I could eat blood pudding.  Goose yes!!

Re: Yah Shore...
Lutfisk is not my favourite either. It's a generation thing. You have to be at least 95 to appreciate it.

Yah Shore...
I am maybe 1/2 Swede but the most Swedish (or maybe just Scandinavian) food I think I ever had was Ludefisk and only once did I find it palatable.  Great history, reads like a travelogue.

No thanks to the svartsoppa, but everything else in your post is so interesting.  I've eaten goose many times, especially when I was a child.  My grandmother was Czechoslovakian and kept geese.  She always had goose grease concoctions for home remedies for ills (like goose grease and turpentine mixture to rub on a croupy chest).  She always had goose down featherbeds and pillows that she made herself.   I've never cooked a goose myself.  Happy celebrating.

Love it, Ann Onimous. Nothing like a strange festival or ritual. We just
went through Halloween (all kinds of old rituals and traditions combined into one day).  We'll soon go through Thanksgiving (there's a holiday whose origin is not the pure sounding ritual we subscribe to today).  And then there's Christmas, full of its own strange traditions and rituals... Me, I'm partial to St. Patrick's Day -- drinking green beer, singing Irish songs, wearing something green so you won't get pinched...
