Thanks for that reply, in the sense that I mentioned in my post, people who fear the outdoors but I could not remember the term for it, so thanks for the reminder. It can not be easy for both parties, those who severly suffer from a phobia and those who have to help someone cope with one. My thoughts to you all. Take Care.

You were lucky to "grow" out of them....
I watched my Mom grow more firmly into hers....Agoraphobia. She got to where she wouldn't leave her house.......I had to drag her out.......make her face her fears....she was never comfortable even then.

This input was truly welcomed, as this is yet another important factor of how phobias can come about. I can understand your sisters dilema and misfortune. Thanks for that input. Take Care now.

Sometimes a traumatic experience can begin an uncontrollable phobia. My Sis worked on the 32nd floor of a downtown building that had some trouble with its elevators. One day Sis was desending for lunch when the elevator suddenly dropped from the 19th floor to an automatic catch at the 4th floor. She and several others ended up piled on the floor with back injuries. When she was able to go back to work, she was no longer able to make herself get on any elevator. Since she did not have the strength to climb to the 32nd floor, she lost her job.
