Apologies, Cynthia
I had some hasty, ill conceived thoughts about leaving Blogit and began the dismantling process. Thanks for trying to find it.

Indeed it does and has done so for quite some time, Cynthia
Well said. Seems I unwittingly copycatted you; my post in "Open" carries the same title and similar yet different content. Great minds and all that...:)

Afzal, at this point, I expect you to be my cheerleader. There is certainly not a lot of competition for good writing, here on blogit...

A rule here, a regulation there, and sometimes a law passed ... all further
eroding our civil liberties and our government of, by, and for the people of the United States.  This administration has slowly jackbooted its way to a more authoritarian and centralized executive branch, which will be passed on to the next president.  History shows us that these trends rarely reverse themselves, if ever.  As for Musharraf and Pakistan, what did everyone expect?  He rose to power through a coup.  His popularity is waning.  Bhutto's is gaining.  Elections were scheduled in a couple months that he would undoubtedly lose (if they were legitimate, that is), so coup was his only recourse.  As for electioneering in this country, Cynthia, most people don't give a damn until thier privilege of voting is either restricted or denied. Then they might actually get up off thier apathetic asses and protest.  General apathy, fear, and ignorance put this administration in power for a second term (I won't even go into how it got the job for its first term).  To paraphrase Ben Franklin:  people unwilling to fight for their basic rights and freedom don't deserve them...
