Re:

Ex Turpi: I fpeople in this country have good, high paying jobs, what difference does it make how much something costs?  Do you think wealthy people care abot the price of gasoline?  If you have the money to spend, it doesn't matter.

When we manufactured things here, we were a stronger country both economically and morally.  I believe in enforcing the social contract.  Just because it is currently out of vogue doesn't mean that it still can't work.

It's so simple......
Do away with all of the taxes and put in the fair tax....30-32% on everything purchased.  A sales tax if you would......our economy would explode!

WD:

It does not matter how the code is amended or redone, some of us are going to benefit at the expense of others. The US has very complex and very different ways of earning income. No mortal will ever be able to design a code that captures all it should capture. And then, even if one succeeds, ten seconds later that code would be obsolete. Some financial whiz kid will find a way, will introduce a financial product, to circumvent the regulations.

As far as using the code as an incentive to lure US companies to invest at home, that seems to me very unrealistic. The price would be too high. That may be sensible when labour costs abroad approximate labour costs here. We are still some years away from that. Then, of course, everything we buy will be so much costlier.

Enigmatic68: I disagree with Rangel on quite a few issues as well but I agree with him on this one.
