Re: FYS
hi Soul, thanks for reading.  It's pretty incredible how practical our practices were.  Here's another one---what is the purpose of candles during worship?  Not symbolic as we might think, though we currently apply symbolism to candles and the flame; it was to emit light so we could see.  Practical.

Re: FYS
Sheilah---no kidding!  I've neglected my blogging!!!!  It's terrible.  This week will be no better.  I have a trade show tomorrow and will be driving pretty much all day, and then all day Thursday, so I won't even have a chance to sign on until later Thursday.  WAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

Re: Incense
Hi KaHae---they used it for many similar reasons---to kill foul odors; the eastern cultures always applied a higher meaning in order to get people to do things; using perfume/incense for example--saying "you smell bad" might be considered personally offensive, but "there is a spiritual imbalance in you, and it's creating an odor" will get someone to splash on some bdellum in a heartbeat.  Spiritual applications always followed practical.

LOL. Don't work too much! (don't know if you should take this advice, coming from a workaholic-blogaholic-me)

Incense
LOL! Quite probably this was an important and necessary factor.  But other cultures use incense as well (much like our own uses aromatherapy.)  Smell is an important human sense and scent can produce certain physiological results.  It makes sense to use it in worship.

I'll bet it didn't work...
unless the bdellium has an overwhelming smell of its own, that would just knock you sideways...
