He sounds like some ignorant moralizing bigot, davideskin. Russians
can't change because they're programmed that way?  What a crock. Russians no doubt understand oppression; it does not mean that they agree with it or are genetically hardwired to live it.  Personal liberty is an unalienable human right.  It is a cornerstone of our collective American ideology.  Since Bush's administration has done everything in its power to force democracy down the throat of Iraq while paying lip service to human rights and democracy everywhere else in the world, this kind of idiotic rationalizing looks blatantly hypocritical, childish, almost a "sour grapes" moment...

This is probably one of the most reasoned and balanced piece I have read for a good while. It could be that the president, as his days in office draw to a close, is  so dissapointed in what his approach has achieved and is trying to rationalize  and so placate those who still support that approach.
