Re: Darn, wish I could have caught the program!
Katray, there is a flood of new biographies out now and political commentary as more rats from the administration leave a sinking ship and try to pretend they had nothing to do with the total fuc@up of our country...I'm sure you can catch the FRONTLINE show on the PBS web site, or here in Boston at WGBH.ORG

Darn, wish I could have caught the program!
Quite an odd relationship between Bush and Cheney. I read in an in-depth article about Cheney (Wash. Post, if memory serves) that Bush seems to cower around him. Case in point being the Harriet Myers fiasco. Bush didn't talk to Cheney about appointing her and when he found out, Cheney snickered and said something to the effect of: "Didn't have the nerve to tell me himself, did he?" Conspiracy theories are easy to laugh at and dismiss, but I'll admit Michael Ruppert's (author of "Crossing the Rubicon") claims about Cheney, when compared to the ever more obvious realities of his power and control, do give me pause. Interesting post, Cynthia, Thank you.

Right you are, Cynthia. There is little in your report or what Frontline
has to say that is new news. John Yoo was an authoritarian ideologue, a neoconservative on a mission, pushing for more and more centralized power (just read his book; he's an ass). Anyone that knows anything about Bush knows he doesn't have the political or legal acumen to fully grasp the policies and signings that he is being given credit for. I believe he understands the overall direction, which suits him fine. I find it amazing that we've had a couple of ideologically diverse Congresses ignore the Bush administration's outright grab for dictatorial power without so much as a passing glance at a couple of calls for impeachment. Ridiculous.
As for John Ashcroft, who would have thunk it, huh? I'm with you on this as well. We did know that Gonzalez and company were scumbag yes-men, doing whatever they could to chip away at individual civil liberties, giving the president broader and broader legal mandate through fear and manufactured pretenses. No way should any of this president's signings and centralizing legislation go unchallenged...
