And who has been notorious in the past for some extreme measures. Remember the movie, MIDNIGHT EXPRESS? And whose Muslim leader is not all that accepting of fair elections or Christians.
The Shah of Iran was our ally, so was Panama's Noriega, and El Salvador's tyrannical government, and Chile's dictators, and, to some extent, Saddam Hussein.
I will agree with you that it is ludicrous to bring this up at a time when we need Turkey in some matters.
Oh yes, have you heard about Turkey sending troops to the border with Iraq, I think to deal with Kurds.
And if they invade Iraq and "deal with the Kurds" there, what will we do? Like George I did when Hussein sent troops to deal with them in 91 or 92 (after a promise to help them)?
