- Go to CHRISTIANS! MY FIRST QUESTION FOR YOU >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Re: wait no longer, I'm a Christian but I can't answer your question with truth
Kabu,
In my opinion, you have answered well! I would most likely have done, myself, just like my forefathers and mothers obviously did. (They WERE there). I would have bowed my head and said "praise the Lord," rather than become a martyr. But I do firmly believe that later on that night when I went to bed, I would have been ashamed of myself, and my Church, whose teachings were the cause of those burnings.
The witch burnings were a world-wide happening, but over 90% of them ocurred in Christian lands, rather than so-called "pagan" countries. Should we be proud of that? I certainly am not. We all were created by God, and we were given, each of us, power over our own minds. No others but us has this control. God was far "smarter" than to create demons, goblins, evil spirits, and a super Satan who could thwart His Purpose, no matter what Holy Book or person may say otherwise! Do we really think God is THAT stupid? Just think; that's all.
Thank you very much for responding

wait no longer, I'm a Christian but I can't answer your question with truth
because I don't really know the answer. Would it be the right thing to try and enlighten the populace? No, I'd only end up a martyre myself and in all honesty I am allergic to pain. I like to believe I would go away and pray quietly as answer B suggests. How do I know until the moment of testing if I would have that sort of courage. I can pray for courage and believe it is given to me sure, but what if my acts were to affect those I love? What if they would be persecuted too because of me and my selfish determination to make a point. God looks into the heart and knows the truth. I think I have to leave the answer there!

Re: Gepruitt
Or, have they just "built God in their own images," each his own, while claiming God's own instruction to do so? Still, I hope not.

FineYoungSinger,
I appreciate your very honest reply! That honesty shows me a lot more than one may think. Regardless of your religious affiliation, you are obviously one seeking the truth. In fact, I would even bet that you have already found more of it than others will in, perhaps in an entire lifetime.
Thank you again, very much, for your meaningful comment.

Re: CHRISTIANS AREN'T ANSWERING SO FAR
Xeno. I know, but I am still waiting . . . and hoping. Maybe they are still meditating and examining themselves. The question "what would you do?" should not be difficult. There is no "right" or "wrong" answer here. It is only a matter of honesty. On the other hand, a complete failure of Christians to respond may speak volumes of it's own! I will leave it out there awhile, hoping.

CHRISTIANS AREN'T ANSWERING SO FAR
the psychology of the mob -- that makes things difficult -- ready to sweep up all in their way that stands between them and their objective.
reason is of little use here.
superstition reigns.
education is rejected outright.
the situation seems hopeless.

uh, so I guess I'm going to actually answer the question:
I would like to think that I'd verbally and loudly object, running the risk of being tied to my own stake, and call that Sebastian guy a hypocrite right to his face, as I know that most witch burnings were conducted by people that were guilty of the same "crimes" that they were, and they did it to save face.
In actuality, though, I have to admit, I don't really know if I'd have the guts to be burned alive for my beliefs. I hope I would, though.

Salem did happen, as did the destruction of the Carthars, the Crusades and the Inquisition. It is called hypocrisy! Organized Religion preaches one thing and practices another, mostly!
