I don't know, Soul Builder. There are a lot of poor people in the United
States.  These huge signing bonuses (somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they've actually topped $40,000) are drawing in people.  Money is a powerful incentive for those used to living on nothing or next to nothing.  No jobs, rampant impoverishment, little or minor educational opportunities past high school, squalor, and other environmental stimuli can push a young and somewhat adventurous opportunist in the direction of enlistment.

I don't think it would stop the civil strife in Iraq if we left, Robert.
In fact, there would be a mass rounding up of "collaborators", those who helped the Americans and the Coalition, once the U.S. has pulled out.  There will probably be a civil war as well.  Both factions are well-armed now and the once dominant Sunnis are not going to have an easy go of taking over again, outnumbered and outgunned now as they are.  An uneasy truce is not likely to come for years.  I do think the United States needs to leave and let the Iraqis sort things out on their own.  For as long as they're there, they will always be a target of one faction or another.  Meddling in Iraq's affairs now for five years has done untold damage to Iraq, to America's reputation at home, in the Middle East and throughout the world.

No end in sight to the so-called War in Bagdad? The end is anytime Bush wants to leave the country and without taking anything out. That is not a war. That is massacre and robbing Iraqi people under the pretex of a legitimate war.
