That's fantastic, FYS. I'll start working on that first thing in the morning. When you say
'use the eraser tool and erase all the background,' does that mean use that little eraser on every pixel in the background?

Wow! It's a lot better than anything I've managed to do, jacenta.
Thank you very much, oh professional one. Do you know if there is anyway to make it less cluttered and more defined like the sketch?

hey johnmacnab,
it takes a bunch of steps to do it in photoshop, but it is possible. If you just run a filter, because the pic is so dark all around, and the tones are very similar between the background and the image you want to sketch, you get a muddy appearance.
Use the eraser tool and erase all background. Then you have to call up your channels. The channels is a feature that you can find where you find your layers feature. click the eyeball and you'll see what you get---pick the channel that gives you the BEST outline, and select each channel separately, select all and clear the image.
then select the image in the best channel, cut it and paste it into the Black channel.
then run a sketch filter.
Use the eraser to clean up the lines.
I know it seems complicated, but my best tip for you would be to save a copy of your picture, and manipulate the copy only.
