A real solution to the illegal alien problem
Now Rudy G. prefers a "virtual" fence.  Rick Perry is now in semi-opposition to a fence.  I wish I knew the solution, ourside of armed guards at the border, as Mexico has in place on their Southern border with Guatamala.  Turn back or be shot are their standing orders.  joab

Hey, guys, you may be ignoring an important point...
Whatever we do will cost money and take time to setup. Nothing happens in a vacuum. But before we implement any kind of method for searching out the illegals already here, we need to stop the flow – that's a fence, coast-to-coast. And we need to control any further arrivals. After that, I'm open to any reasonable suggestion for dealing with the illegals already here – but remember the numbers in my article. Solutions MUST be realistic or they won't happen.

A real solution to the illegal alien problem
Paradoxically enough, it will be the illegal aliens themselves who will resolve this situation.  joab

Re: My main point, Ladyoflight...
Actually this can be implemented, because when people break the laws.....sometime they are arrested.... we have many illegal aliens in our jail system, that we are paying for right this moment.  After they serve their sentences they are in most cases deported.  It might save some tax payer dollars to deport the non-violent offenders before they serve their sentences.  Not saying this is right, but an option and doable.

We can legalize people who are working buy encouraging them to come forward with their employers, therefore offering proof of employment.  This can be done through a general amenesty.  Criteria can be set for qualification, i.e., 5 years past employment, proof of having lived in the U.S. for over a certain number of years...phone bills, electric bills, etc.

There are many ways to establish these types of programs. First, the goal must be determined, then the means found and the criteria established.  We first have to decide what is it we want to do about illegal immigration and WHY we want to take said actions.

Remember that many jobs that the illegals do, most legal citizens don't.  :) just a thought

peace be with you.

I think it's more complex than that, Spinner...
I agree that people come here illegally because they can. If we close that avenue, while simultaneously making legal entry possible for temporary workers, we will have solved part of the problem. I was addressing the issue of what to do with those who are already here – all 12 to 20 million.

they are mostly labor force becouse they don't mind working. I don't think you are blaming them because I would do the same thing they are if in there shoes. They are being alowed to come here it is our governments fault not theres. They are only doing what hungry people often do. Trying to find a bite to eat and some one is takeing advantage of it. I wonder hoo. They create revenue and uncle sam likes it.

That's a good question, Soul Builder...
On that probably never will be answered.

ArGee
Years ago, the current mess was predicted. No one in Government was bothered. Nothing was discussed with Vincente Fox. Efforts by citizens to close main routes were obstructed! Was it deliberately allowed to happen?

Re: I concur with Ann Onimous .
Please see my reply to Ann, below, Afzal. It's not a simple, black-and-white problem.

My main point, Ladyoflight...
Was that a solution that cannot be implemented has no value. When you write about "...deporting the illegals who are breaking the laws, and legalizing those who are working...," without offering a way to accomplish this, you are just waving your hands in the air. This has been the problem all along with the illegal immigrant situation. My solution actually can be implemented. Incidentally, Rudy Giuliani has offered a similar solution – the only presidential candidate of either party to do so.

Re: New World Order
While I understand your obvious frustration, Ann, I'm not sure your characterization of the problem makes it any easier to solve. While some (you might even say many) jobs have migrated elsewhere, other jobs are being created here. Furthermore, if you require a firm to hire American help, and the subsequent cost drives that firm out of business, then you have a net loss of American jobs. As I implied in my post, it's often far easier to define a problem than to solve it.

false economies manufacturing in china and call centers in India..... No product quality control.... as seen in the past months with defective toys and poisoned dog food and tooth paste... real costs involved there ..... and service calls take 3 to 4 times longer when you are patched through to india..... lots of time wasted for the clients.....

Add in increase in pollution from shipping the goods half way around the world..... what a mess!

Immigration is a problem...... but let us ask ourselves what jobs they are really taking?  We can't completely close the borders but how about deporting the illegals who are breaking the laws, and legalizing those who are working so they will actually pay taxes to help pay for the infrastructure they are using... public hospitals, schools, roads, etc.,,,,

Illegal immigration costs the californian state over 3 billion dollars a year....

any other solutions?.......

New World Order
All the factory jobs are going to China and all the office jobs to India. It's a brand new borderless world, so what's the problem? Cheer up, relax and enjoy being a World Citizen.
