Comments on Solar mirrors to save the planet

You need to keep the scale of these things in mind, Soul Builder...
The Earth is about 8,000 miles in diameter, and the asteroids range from several hundred to several thousand feet across. An impact could cause several local damage, and a large impact could disrupt the Earth's ecosystem, but bursting the planet like a water balloon is most unlikely. That would take the "mother of all asteroids." None of that size are known to be in a path that could cause this.

This is interesting scientific research! New space vehicles are being invented. Two I have come across are 1) using ion propulsion 2) using electromagnetic propulsion. If we can get up close to the asteroid, then we can deflect/destroy it. If the bullet-like speed of the asteroid penetrates the Earths crust, then we can have an effect like a burst water-balloon!
