There’s an expression “There’s no going back” and in part the adage speaks of the reality that our memory often glorifies what actually was. Your story is so vivid – describing your roots and your longing to return to the simplicity of that life. Your poem is filled with so many wonderful lines:
Where I grew up and wound my spool. …. to name one. Great work!
